We've all heard of Taco Tuesday by now, but did you know that there is a Wing Wednesday? It's true, and it's going down at the beach courtesy of Bub's at the Beach in Pacific Beach. Every Wednesday night, enjoy buy one get one free on 5-piece wing trays with any of their homemade sauces, as well as $5 drafts/$20 pitchers of Sam Adams or Ashland Seltzer.
We were invited to check out this spot on none other than the first night of the Stanley Cup finals. What a great night and place to eat some wings and watch sports on the plentiful large television sets. The bar is open air, so it feels nice and safe, and you get to enjoy those ocean breezes.
We started with the giant pretzel appetizer. Everyone who reads this blog should know by now that if a place has a giant soft pretzel on the menu, I'm getting it. This pretzel was humongous! It comes with a cheese dipping sauce and homemade mustard sauce, both excellent accompaniments. Coupled with one of their many beers, it's the perfect start.
To start a little more entree-focused items, the chicken fingers with tater tots is a perfect item to enjoy dipping into any of the homemade sauces.
On to the most important part of the evening -- the wings! Bub's has a ton of choices for sauces, spicy, sweet, salty, or a little bit of all three!
I wanted something a bit different from the standard buffalo sauce, so we chose the Thai Peanut, Archie (a homemade sauce of buffalo, honey mustard, and spices), BBQ, and spicy BBQ.
The BBQ and spicy BBQ are classics for a reason. Everyone loves them, and classics are comforting when you want to hang out and chat with friends over beers.
The other featured dish at Bub's are the tater tot skillets. There are a few choices, but being a Pittsburgh-themed bar, we thought we should go with the Pittsburgh tots with sliced beef, melted Swiss and mozzarella, grilled onions, mushrooms, and peppers. The tater tots were anything but ordinary, and very crispy. The toppings were delicious and definitely necessitated a fork for consumption.
For dessert, Bub's serves up the Solo Cup sundae, with vanilla ice cream, crushed Oreos and Heath pieces, along with chocolate and caramel syrups. After consuming all of those calories with beer, wings, and tots, it's the perfect sweet bite.
Wing Wednesdays are going on weekly at Bub's, as well as other game day and weekday specials.
