Lazy Hippo

Just in time for San Diego Comic Con, the Lazy Hippo invites Gaslamp District visitors to enjoy breakfast and lunch in style for a nice meal before heading to the beach or activities in San Diego. We were invited to check out the menu and report back to readers just how lovely this restaurant is!

The decor of Lazy Hippo is very chic -- simple black and white with a neo-Victorian feel. It all feels very calming and would certainly be date-appropriate.

I really love black and white decor; it's very sophisticated and simple, so the look of Lazy Hippo was right up my alley.
It just wouldn't be a San Diego restaurant without some outdoor seating, and these cute bistro tables invite patrons to take a seat and enjoy the good life in the sunshine with a coffee or even a mimosa.

As well as a full menu of breakfast and lunch favorites, Lazy Hippo also boasts a variety of cocktails, wine, and beer.
We're old and boring, so we stuck with coffee since it was early and we need it to start!

The breakfast menu here is seemingly endless -- in fact, that might be my one criticism -- it's a little overwhelming.

Omelets are always a good idea, whether it be breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I'm a huge fan. Since I usually need a protein boost in the morning, we went for the Meat Lovers, minus the ham (I don't care for it). Filled with ham, bacon, sausage, and cheddar cheese, this is a very classic breakfast favorite for good reason. It was quite large, served with a fruit cup and potatoes, so definitely filling.
Another breakfast classic is a big stack o' pancakes, but of course, just plain pancakes won't do for a special breakfast, and Lazy Hippo offers three flavor options, or a sampler platter of all three. Of course, I chose a sampler because I'm just extra like that. The sampler includes a blueberry chia seed, chocolate chip, and cinnamon roll pancake. The pancakes were wonderful, and so big they would definitely suit splitting with the table as an extra bite of sweetness for everyone.

Lazy Hippo is open every day for breakfast and lunch, and would be the perfect spot to escape those Comic Con crowds for a relaxing bite!
