Sushi at Mitsuwa

I don’t know about you but I like to have sushi for lunch, but if you have ever tried to do this on a weekend your options are limited.  My favorite sushi two sushi places are Mr.Sushi in PB and Azuki Sushi in Banker’s Hill, which are closed for lunch on weekends.

But Mitsuwa, the Japanese market in Clairmont. has become my alternative. I have on numerous occasions purchased Toro (Tuna Belly), and Salmon for excellent results at home.  But I have never tried their lunch and sushi counter in the store. To give you an idea, I was able to purchase 4 pieces of Toro for 16 dollars (a steal compared to a restaurant) and California rolls for an excellent lunch.

We started with a seaweed salad, which was fresh and tasty. Next we had the Toro, which was like butter in my mouth, it melted with each bite and was as good as any Toro I had ordered in Japan. The California Rolls are respectable and as good as Azuki, in my humble opinion.

We finished by picking up Chicken Katsu Curry (I love Japanese curries, and it so hard to find them other them here) from one of the lunch counters in the store. It was fresh flavorful and an excellent end to the meal.
