Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots

I know that everyone is gearing up for the remaining holidays, but if you live in the San Diego area, I strongly advise you to check out Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, going on until December 16 at the La Jolla Playhouse.

Based around music from one of my favorite bands, the play is a musical combining science fiction, action, acrobatics, pyrotechnics, and song! The story is beautiful and heartbreaking, and ties into the three albums in a way that gives the music even deeper meaning.

The special effects alone were worth the price of admission. I've never seen so many things happen live on a stage, from giant puppets, dancing on wires, to lighting and sound effects. The experience is incredible.

Great performances from each of the leads. I felt empathy for each of the characters in their situation, and they held the songs to a new height with their voices. It was interesting to hear the songs carried through another voice, and (thankfully) the arrangements were preserved.

Check it out before it leaves for Broadway!!!!
