Olivetto

It's been quite a busy week around here with Comic Con and summer in full swing. I finally had a chance to catch my breath and talk about a very good dining experience that I had at Olivetto in Mission Hills.
Olivetto is a classic Italian bistro located right on Washington Street, in the heart of Mission Hills. The interior is simple and lovely, and check out that wine selection! It was quite difficult to pick out a glass from such a nice selection.

After being seated, we perused the wine list and decided on a glass of the Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, and the Olivetto Pinot Grigio. The wine list was carefully curated, and both wines were perfect.

After some careful deliberation, we decided on having the fried calamari for an appetizer. I love calamari, particularly when it is very well made, and this serving did not disappoint! Lightly battered and fried, a bit of lemon juice was really all that was needed. However, dipping them in the marinara sauce was quite good as well!

After devouring every bit of the appetizer, we ordered our main meals, choosing to go with the Spaghetti allo scoglio, a seafood pasta featuring fresh clams, mussels, shrimps, cherry tomatoes and garlic in a white wine sauce. So good, with lots of garlic flavor in the light sauce. I love seafood pasta, and this one was a real treat with the abundance of fresh shellfish.

For our other entree, we ordered the Florentine chicken, which featured a chicken breast, fried, \stuffed with prosciutto, mozzarella, spinach, mushroom cream sauce. On the side were sauteed potatoes, carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower. This dish was incredibly rich and delicious, and definitely made for hearty appetites!

The dishes were huge, so we had leftovers, but we just had to sample the homemade tiramisu! This tiramisu was just perfect, with soft layers of cake, and the chocolate-espresso flavors mixed with dark rum that make tiramisu so fantastic!

What a great dinner!
