I was treated to a preview of the Restaurant Week menu at The Wellington, a classic steakhouse in Mission Hills. The space is quite small, but the mirrors everywhere give the illusion of something bigger. It's quaint -- I kind of felt as though I had stepped back in time to a speakeasy from the 30s.
The food was old-time as well (in a wonderful way) -- classic steaks with classic sides, which is actually welcome in this neighborhood. Hillcrest and Mission Hills have enough fusion and nouveau cuisine, let's get some classics up in here!
For Restaurant Week, a 3-course prix fixe is offered, with a choice of three different items per course. We first ordered some of their famous martinis, then ordered our first course. For our first course, we decided to try the braised pork cheeks and crab cakes.
The pork cheeks were nothing short of amazing. Very flavorful and carefully braised, then wrapped in a puff pastry, this was probably the best pork that I have ever eaten.

Next up was the main course! And what did we order? Steak, of course! I decided to get the New York Strip, which was served with sweet and yukon gold potato gratin, as well as bacon roasted brussel sprouts. My husband chose the filet mignon with the mashed potatoes and broccoli.
Look at that huge steak! (Pictured is me for comparison of how big my steak was). And of course, it was delicious! When is steak not? Seriously, the steaks were both wonderful, nice and tender, and full of beefy flavor. The sides were incredible! The mashed potatoes were very well-seasoned, and the bacon brussel sprouts could not have been healthy at all -- they were too good!
